Old German Clay Pipe #39 in white or black

This a short but bumpy little fellow. It has a few warts and bumps that were probably with him from his formative period. Hardened by the elements and tested in winds and fire, he carries on happy in his lumpiness and ready to be put to good you by you, gentle pipe smoker.

These Old German clay tobacco pipes both start out as white clay pipes. The black version undergoes a separate process after the pipes are fired that produces the black finish. Markus Fohr is a pipe maker who lives in Montabaur, Germany, about 70 Miles from Frankfurt, Cologne and Düsseldorf in the region of Westerwald. His family has been making clay pipes for generations. He uses the fine white clay of the region which has been prized for centuries and is used to create the famous pottery of this region. Some of the molds used are originals going back 240 years.
